The national minimum qualification for student police officers.
The 10 units of the Diploma in Policing cover the knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform effectively as a police officer. You will cover and demonstrate your ability to affect arrests, interview witnesses and suspects, search individuals and premises and manage conflict. To achieve this qualification you must be a serving Regular or Special Constabulary police officer.
Achieving this qualification as a Special prior to joining the police will save significant time in your initial training.
The only pre-join qualification recognised by the Association of Chief Police Officers, NPIA and Skills for Justice.
This qualification covers the knowledge and understanding requirements of the Diploma in Policing and can be achieved by anyone. Once qualified with the Policing Knowledge Certificate you will be able to save time in your initial training, demonstrating your commitment to joining the police as well as your ability.
The national minimum qualification for police community support officers. For PCSOs considering a career as a police officer, four of the six units from this qualification are transferable to the Diploma in Policing.

SFJ Awards qualifications in Neighbourhood Policing are unique as they are not offered by any other awarding body. Designed by experienced neighbourhood policing officers alongside SFJ Awards, completion of these qualifications will better enable officers to solve problems within communities and to reduce crime and ASB.
Based on National Occupational Standards for the role of neighbourhood police officer, two qualifications are available - A Professional Award in the Management of Neighbourhood Policing and an Advanced Award in Neighbourhood Policing.
